The full problem tourney requirements were apparently sent primarily to subscribers to the national congress. Based on the prize-winning sets, #2 + #3 + #4 appears to have been required.

Closing date was initially set to 1878-09-18 for competitors in Italy, and to 1878-09-30 for competitors abroad. Due to the low number of received sets, closing time was later extended.

10 sets were received. 4 sets survived testing.
