The first of the set prizes was donated by J. Berger. The second was added
from the tourney participation fees.
39 competitors sent 31 three-move and 33 four-move problems. Eleven four-movers and five three-movers were found to be faulty during preliminary examination and disqualified from competition.
After the preliminary award list had been been published, the awarded problems were
published for public scrutiny. (This was probably based on recommendations
made after the previous congress tourney.) This identified a fault with the
preliminary 2nd #3 prize.
